Notoriety, bottled: the new feminine fragrance from L’Oréal and Ralph Lauren


FRANCE. Ralph Lauren Fragrances (L’Oréal Produits de Luxe International) is poised to unveil a new feminine fragrance, called Notorious. It will be available in European travel retail from August, before rolling out to the Americas and Asia in October.

Described as a “daring new fragrance of timeless intrigue and boundless desire”, Notorious was inspired by the sexy, mysterious, self-possessed women of the golden age of film glamour, such as Ingrid Bergman, Lauren Bacall and Faye Dunaway.

The face of the fragrance is French actress Laetitia Casta, who will appear in Michael Thompson’s ad campaign from this autumn.

The Notorious juice is a sparkling, spiced oriental, said to be provocative and commanding. It opens on notes of blackcurrant, pink peppercorn and Italian bergamot, leading to a floral heart of carnations and peonies, offset by chocolate cosmos – a decadent, chocolate-scented burgundy flower exclusive to Ralph Lauren Fragrances. The drydown features vanilla, orris and patchouli musk.

The fragrance flacon is art deco-inspired and “architecturally balanced”, with classic detailing designed to evoke a piece of art or timeless accessory. The cap is square with a black platform, inscribed with the gold RL signature.

The outer carton is a crocodile embossed black patent, inspired by the designer’s coveted Ricky and Legend handbags. A gold-coloured border highlights the edges.

The packaging in general takes its cue from the Ralph Lauren Collection Fall 2008 fashion show, which features stand-out black croc accessories and signature gold pieces.

Notorious will be available as 30ml, 50ml and 75ml edp sprays, a 200ml shower gel, a 200ml body lotion and a 150ml body crème. The recommended domestic price points are US$45, US$65, US$85, US$40, US$45 and US$70, respectively.
