GERMANY. LS travel retail Deutschland today announced the acquisition of Münich-based Coffee Fellows’ train station locations (about 20 points of sale).

The deal, effective 1 January, gives LS travel retail Deutschland exclusive master-franchise rights in the travel retail segment of the market. The individual locations will continue to be run by the current local partners.

LS travel retail aims to expand the Coffee Fellows brand to cover more train stations and airport locations.

“With Coffee Fellows we have added a very attractive brand to our foodservice portfolio,” said LS travel retail Deutschland Managing Director Thomas Wiesel.

Coffee Fellows serves signature coffees, a wide selection of fresh savoury bagels and full breakfasts.

“We are delighted to have found in LS travel retail a specialist as partner for our high-traffic train station shops,” said Coffee Fellows Managing Director and Owner Dr. Stefan Tewes. “The deal allows us to concentrate on expanding our High Street presence and paves the way for faster growth for both companies.”

LS travel retail – known for its retail brands Relay, Virgin and hub Convenience – continues to develop its activities in the foodservice segment of the travel retail market. Apart from the acquisition of the Coffee Fellows locations, the company will also be opening the brand new food court in Frankfurt Main Station this Spring.

Wiesel told The Foodie Report that LS Deutschland plans to develop its catering channel to a point where 50% of the German business turnover is generated from F&B.
