LSG Sky Chefs and Thomas Cook Group Airlines expand cooperation

EUROPE. LSG Sky Chefs and Thomas Cook Group Airlines have extended and expand their pan-European catering agreement, which includes onboard retail, catering, equipment and logistics.

LSG Sky Chefs has been serving Thomas Cook Group Airlines in Germany (where it operates under the name of Condor) and the UK for many decades. It also gained Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium as a customer with the acquisition of the Gate Gourmet operation in Brussels in 2013.

With the expanded cooperation, LSG Sky Chefs will cater eight major locations in Scandinavia and Finland, plus a number of smaller satellite locations in those countries. For Thomas Cook Group Airlines the new agreement further strengthens the integration of its four airlines while benefitting from synergies across all markets, the companies said in a statement.

“The new joint catering and retail contract delivers significant savings and is fully in line with the Thomas Cook Group Airlines’ strategy to bundle activities across the single airlines and harmonise product offerings at the same time,” said Ralf Teckentrup, Chief Commercial Officer of Thomas Cook Group Airlines and CEO of Condor.

“By winning this business, we become the single supplier for Thomas Cook across Europe, serving them at all of their stations,” said LSG Lufthansa Service Holding CEO Erdmann Rauer. “We look forward to jointly develop and introduce the innovative and future-oriented onboard service concept on all Thomas Cook Group flights throughout 2016.”

The Thomas Cook Group Airlines group consists of Thomas Cook Airlines UK, Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium, Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia and Condor Flugdienst. The airlines carry 17.2 million passengers per year, generating revenues of US$4.10 billion. The combined fleet consists of 93 aircraft.

The LSG Group is the world’s largest provider of inflight services. These include catering, onboard retail, in-light equipment and logistics, consulting and lounge services. The company’s extensive know-how in culinary operations and logistics has led to its successful entry in adjacent markets, such as train services and retail. LSG Sky Chefs delivers 578 million meals a year, primarily for more than 300 airlines at 214 airports in 51 countries. In 2014, the companies belonging to LSG Group achieved consolidated revenues of €2.6 billion.
