IRELAND. The MAC store at Dublin Airport’s The Street shopping area has been an outstanding success story in airport retailing, according to Frank O’Connell, Director-Retail of Aer Rianta Retail.
Since it opened in 2002, the shop has performed beyond all expectations with sales consistently increasing by +25% each year.
Since 2005 the outlet has been the number one door for MAC in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and is now third in the global travel retail sector behind Seoul and Hawaii. It ranks 18th in global sales in the international market (domestic and travel retail).
In the first four months of 2006 MAC has again exceeded its sales target with sales figures from January to April up +45% compared to the same period in 2005. The most popular item in the MAC range this year has been MAC Bronzing Powder, with sales of the product up by almost +65% on 2005.
Speaking about the brand’s stellar performance, O’Connell said: “MAC is now outselling all of its competitors on The Street. These figures are well ahead of the trend for the entire perfumery department and I want to congratulate the team at MAC for this tremendous achievement.”
MAC is expected to go from strength to strength in 2006 with projected sales figures estimated at €2.5 million, added O’Connell.
