MACAU, CHINA. Macau International Airport served 5.15 million passengers in 2023, reaching 55% of the volume recorded in pre-pandemic 2019 on the back of what is described as the gradual recovery of air travel.
Data from the airport company showed that there were 42,504 aircraft movements for the year, recovering 54% of 2019 levels.
The airport welcomed an average of 14,000 passengers and 116 aircraft movements on a daily basis.

The top source market was Mainland China, which represented 58% of the total passenger volume. Taiwan accounted for 15% of the total volume, while 27% came from Southeast Asian markets.
Macau International Airport Marketing Department Director Eric Fong told GGRAsia that the travel hub is likely to see a “+10% to +15%” year-on-year growth in passenger traffic for full-year 2024.
Macau International Airport noted that it will deepen its commitment to the tourism development of Macau and consolidate the passenger market of Mainland China this year.

The airport company added that it will continue to expand cooperation with overseas and base airlines to explore international markets. This is to develop more direct or connecting long-haul routes and to deliver wide-ranging one-stop travel solutions.
In line with its goal of promoting local tourism, the airport company said it will strengthen communication with overseas carriers to add more routes to Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia.
The company also said that it will boost tourism promotion, targeting travellers from the Greater Bay Area to travel via Macau International Airport. ✈
