MacDuff International will be presenting its historic Scotch whisky brand Grand Macnish at the TFWA Asia Pacific in Singapore next month (stand number: L202).
Grand Macnish was founded in 1863 by Glasgow merchant Robert MacNish, who had sought to create a lighter, smoother type of Scotch compared to the harsh whiskies of the day. It has been in continuous production since its birth in 1863, making Grand Macnish one of the oldest blended Scotch whiskies still in the market today.
At the TFWA show in Singapore, MacDuff International will be showcasing the Grand Macnish 6 Cask Edition and the Grand Macnish Black Edition.
Grand Macnish 6 Cask Edition is a new blended malt whisky combining one single malt from each of the six different whisky-producing regions of Scotland – Highland, Speyside, Islay, Campbeltown, Lowland and Islands – giving a taste of “Scotland in a bottle”.
On the nose, the 6 Cask Edition has hints of smoke with floral notes and dried fruits from Islay and Speyside while the palate features vanilla and slightly salty toffee from Campbeltown and Islands. Its finish is described as rich and full-bodied with sweet spices from the Highlands and Lowlands.

Grand Macnish Black Edition is a new darker expression of the classic blend, adding a more intense oaky and smoky finish to the traditional Grand Macnish sweetness and rounded flavour. The individual malt and grain whiskies making up the blend are drawn from a limited number of casks and aged in charred bourbon casks to intensify the flavour.
On the nose, the Black Edition has an aroma of wood smoke and dry spice while the palat is full-bodied with dark chocolate and treacle plus hints of pepper. The finish is described as satisfying and smooth with a lasting sweetness of dried fruit and vanilla.
The Black Edition recently achieved a 94-point score at the 2015 Ultimate Spirits Challenge, an annual blind tasting competition run by a distinguished panel of buyers, consultants, journalists, bartenders and sommeliers.
The same competition saw three other Grand Macnish expressions achieving scores of over 90 points: Grand Macnish 15yo Sherry Cask (95 points), Grand Macnish 12yo Dual Cask (92 points) and Grand Macnish 150th Heritage Blend (91 points).
MacDuff International Marketing Manager Alan Burns commented: “We are delighted at how consistently well Grand Macnish performed across the portfolio. It was particularly pleasing to see Grand Macnish Black Edition gaining such great recognition so soon after its launch.”
The Ultimate Spirits Challenge medals add to the recent string of awards for Grand Macnish, including medals in the International Spirits Challenge (UK), International Review of Spirits (BTI), San Francisco International Spirits Competition 2013 and 2014 and the platinum “˜Best of Show’ for Grand Macnish Original in the World Spirit Competition 2012.
