French make-up artist François Nars was awarded the ‘Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur’ on 9 November at a ceremony in New York.
The award, established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, recognises the achievements of prominent figures in upholding French ideals.
François Nars commented: “I am incredibly humbled and proud to receive this prestigious award – it is one of the greatest moments of my career. France is my homeland and will always have a special place in my heart. I am truly honoured.”
After beginning his career in Paris, Nars moved to New York in the early 1980s and began growing his eponymous make-up brand into a global success story with cult products such as the Orgasm Blush.
A statement from NARS Cosmetics read: “His lifetime of achievements and revolutionary approach to make-up have left an indelible mark on the fashion and beauty industries worldwide”.
President of NARS Cosmetics Barbara Calcagni noted: “He believes in unconventional beauty and has dedicated his life to helping women break boundaries when it comes to make-up and this award is a testament to that.”
There are currently 22 NARS counters across travel retail Americas, Europe and the Middle East & Africa (EMEA). New openings are planned for Asia Pacific in key locations such as Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.
In Spring 2017 the first NARS travel retail counter in the Middle East is set to open at Dubai International Airport. It will be a flagship for the brand and the largest counter in the travel retail channel. The Moodie Davitt Report will have more information on this key opening nearer the time.
Earlier this month, Shiseido Travel Retail launched the limited-edition Sarah Moon for NARS Holiday Collection.
