SPAIN. As it launches its first designer watch collection in collaboration with the Swatch Group, Spanish fashion brand Mango has said it is to double its travel retail presence this year.
Nina Lundgren, Mango’s Business Development Manager International Expansion – Travel Retail, told The Moodie Report that the objective is to “at least double our presence within travel retail, reaching ten stores during 2007”.
Meanwhile, commenting on the inaugural watch collection, Lundgren emphasised the significance of the launch to the company, which is well known for its urban women’s fashion concept.
“We see the 15 styles of Mango watch as an important part of the range displayed in the airport stores,” she said. “You may also see them in airports where we do not yet have a presence with a Mango store, as the watches can be sold both in Mango stores and by Swatch Group official distributors.”
Available since September 2006, the watches are designed as “fashion elements that fit in perfectly with the [clothing] collection, enhancing trends and providing a touch of strength and added value for the season’s collections”, said the company.
For autumn/winter 2006 the Mango watch collection is described as simple and elegant, recognisable by the shape of the face, the design of which is based on the “O” of the Mango logo.
The collection consists of models in stainless steel and mineral glass crystal with leather, satin, silicone or metal straps, in five sizes: small, medium, large, digital and chrono. Prices range from €49 to €169.
Mango highlighted three lines that offer a casual, evening or suit look:
Casual line: Watches with a black or brown leather strap. The face, which is always a silver or gold plated oval shape, shows two symmetrically placed faces, one showing the minutes and the other for the seconds.
Suit line: These pieces can be easily adapted to different styles. Made from stainless steel with a silver or gold finish, they are characterised by their beaded chain straps.
Evening line: The concept of the watch is as an item of jewellery. The pieces are pendants or bracelets with stainless steel, leather or satin straps and Swarovski crystals.
