Max Benjamin candles have made their debut in the travel retail channel with Dubai Duty Free |
IRELAND/UAE. Max Benjamin candles have made their debut in travel retail via Dubai Duty Free. The brand’s premium scented candles retail from €27 and room diffusers (fragranced wooden reed sticks that scent the home) retail at €37.
The company, which is now Ireland’s largest candle brand, was established by brothers Mark and David Van den Bergh six years ago, with the focus on natural products and premium gift packaging.
It has appointed agents for the business in Barry Global Innovation (BGI) and Jonathan Holland Associates (the latter handling the Middle East and Asia).
The Max Benjamin brand, which is named after the twin nephews of its founders [and BGI Owner Barry Geoghegan’s sons -Ed], has expanded fast and is selling in some leading department store chains around the world – John Lewis, House of Fraser, Fortnum & Mason in the UK, Mitsukoshi and Takashimaya in Japan, and Brown Thomas in Ireland.

Max Benjamin fragrances are made from a blend of essential oils and are created from 100% natural plant waxes. They have an Italian cotton wick, which is lead-free, providing a non-toxic burn. The packaging is designed in bright, eye-catching colours that match the corresponding fragrance of the product. The range now features 15 different candle fragrances as well as six scents in room diffusers. The company is also introducing a range of hand and body washes and lotions in 2012.
Mark van den Bergh said: “Launching in Dubai Duty Free is a fantastic opportunity for us. We see massive growth potential for home fragrancing gifts in the travel retail sector. Also, the candles and diffusers are small and lightweight making them the perfect gift to bring back from your travels. We look forward to expanding our range further in Dubai and launching in other airport retailers around the world.”
