US. Key issues surrounding inflight duty free and airline ancillary revenues will be on the agenda for November’s Mega Event in Miami, according to conference organiser Airline Information.
Mega Event, which takes place on 29/30 November, combines a number of forums, including the FFP Conference (The Standard for Airline Loyalty), the Airline Merchandising Conference (formerly ARAC), and the Mega Awards hosted by Freddie Laker Jr.
This year’s event includes an inflight component, said the organisers. “The lack of coordination between airline marketing departments and the departments that control catering, IFE, ancillary or web-derived revenues and traditional duty free is becoming more striking, if not a glaring omission in the dotted lines that connect the non-aviation revenues of any airline,” said Airline Information.
“With this in mind, the Mega Event for airlines in Miami will be hosting a special session on the latest developments in inflight retailing, airline lounge merchandising and technology developments and how ancillary revenues can be more connected to the duty free programme.”
“There are currently two streams of business when logic tells us there should be one decision maker at a strategic level in charge of non-aviation revenues,” said Airline Information Managing Partner Chris Staab.
“From our perspective as event organisers and airline experts we are seeing carriers have ancillary revenue departments and duty free companies that operate in almost completely separate environments, whether for reasons of historical airline operations or of technology. So for the Mega Event we wanted to bring them together.”
