Minneapolis-St Paul tees off with interactive golf facility for travellers

USA. PGA of America has teamed up with Minneapolis boutique golf services firm Wexford Golf to launch an indoor interactive golf facility at Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport (MSP).

Thought to be the first of its kind in a US airport, PGA MSP Airport – billed as a “golf lifestyle facility” – will offer retail, food and beverage and a hands-on golf experience with lounge. The 12,000sq ft facility is scheduled to open in March.

Wexford Golf President and CEO Joel Burger said the PGA MSP layout will enable golfers of all ages and skill levels to play dozens of the world’s top courses on industry-leading simulators, receive instruction from PGA professionals and get custom fit for clubs. Golfers interested in a practice session can use the putting green and virtual driving range.

“The focus of PGA MSP is to engage both existing and new golfers in a fun and unintimidating environment staffed by the best in the business, PGA Professionals,” Burger said.

PGA of America Chief Executive Officer Pete Bevacqua welcomed the opportunity that PGA MSP offers for an airport that serves more than 35 million passengers per year. “The PGA of America is very excited about the opportunities that this innovative facility presents to beginning golfers and to those who we want to return to the game. PGA MSP not only offers a fascinating golf experience for the busy traveller but also aligns with the PGA’s long-term strategic plan to grow this wonderful game,” he said.

In addition to golf, the facility will feature classic American cuisine served by Champions’ Grille by Ike’s Food and Cocktail – an 84-seat bar operated by HMSHost – as well as PGA Championship and Ryder Cup branded merchandise at the Golf Shop. The latest golf clubs from major manufacturers are presented for use at no charge, and day passes for non-flying golfers are available in advance.

PGA MSP is located in Terminal 1 at the north end of the MSP Airport Mall, on the second floor, inside TSA Security and above Starbucks, Ike’s and French Meadow Bakery.

Travellers can access the golf experience and lounge starting at US$10 while there is no charge to visit the Golf Shop or Champions’ Grille.
