Moldovan travel retailer Dufremol plots major border and airport store expansion – 11/09/09

How Dufremol is changing the retail landscape at Chisinau Airport in Moldova

MOLDOVA. Leading Moldovan travel retailer Dufremol, a partner of Gebr Heinemann, is to open three new border stores on the frontier with Ukraine. The first shop will open by the end of this year and the other two early next year, the company reported.

The company is also plotting a major redevelopment of its airport stores at Chisinau Airport in Moldova. Dufremol was one of two retailers that have been at the airport since 1994, but in June this year it bought out the other, Moldklassika, and is now refurbishing its entire operations.

The 300sq m space on the first floor includes one 80sq m fragrances & cosmetics outlet, 70sq m dedicated to tobacco and spirits, and there will also be an accessories and electronics shop, a destination merchandise shop (including wines, souvenirs and food) and a last-minute shop.

Dufremol also operates a duty free shop in the VIP Terminal and a diplomatic shop downtown, and it manages the inflight duty free sales programme onboard Air Moldova.

Gebr Heinemann, which has been the exclusive supplier to Dufremol for many years, said it looked forward to working with Dufremol owners Ilan and Ilona Shor on the project, and said the airport business had strong growth potential.
