British fragrance house Molton Brown has unveiled a limited edition eco-conscious festive collection, underlining its sustainability mission on its 50th anniversary. The collection is housed in 1970s-inspired gift boxes, created from tree-free paper and recycled materials. It was launched in selected travel retail stores in November.
Founded 50 years ago, Molton Brown was created with the mission of offering high-quality products that are made ethically and sustainably. The brand has never tested on animals and has been Leaping Bunny approved since 2012. Its range is 100% vegetarian and 97% vegan and all formulations are paraben, phthalate and micro-bead free. In addition, its bath, body and hand collection bottles are made of 50% recycled PET plastics.

Today, the brand’s green commitment is resonating stronger than ever as conscious consumerism continues to grow in travel retail.
Commenting on the house’s mission of helping the travel retail sector build a more sustainable future, Molton Brown Global Travel Retail and Export Associate Director Rosie Cook said: “The travel retail sector has suffered the most challenging 18 months any of us have ever known, but signs of recovery are appearing all over the world and now is the time to seize the opportunities ahead of us.
“We believe a focus on sustainability is going to be vital for all brands and stakeholders within this sector as we build our new future. A conscious care for the world has been at the heart of Molton Brown for half a century and we are excited to continue sharing our new products and ideas with the industry to inspire and engage shoppers around the world.”
Molton Brown’s recently-launched Botanical Haircare Collection, which was made with ingredients grown using hydroponic systems, is testament to its ongoing commitment to sustainable innovation. The line offers salon-quality haircare products with ingredients produced in one-abandoned underground tunnels. The ingredients are grown all year round and are unaffected by weather and seasonal changes.

A continued investment in travel retail
Molton Brown has also continued to invest in travel retail opportunities globally. In September, the brand opened a new counter at Ben Guiron Airport in Tel Aviv, Israel with the JR/Heinemann partnership. The space offers its best-selling bath, body and home ranges alongside selected fragrances.
In addition, Molton Brown signed a contract with Tairo International to expand its network in Mexico and the Caribbean. It is also deepening its partnership with Duty Free Americas to extend its presence beyond existing sites at John F. Kennedy International and Miami International airports in the US.
In 2022, Molton Brown is looking to expand in Middle East travel retail where it is enjoying a strong domestic performance. It also has some exciting new developments planned with Dufry.
“There is a bright future for travel retail,” Cook adds. “We are completely committed to this market, and we are excited to bring our 50-year heritage of creating sustainable, mindful luxury to bear for partners and shoppers in travel retail.”
