Family-owned Haitian distillery Rhum Barbancourt has sealed an exclusive distribution agreement with Monarq Group for Latin America and Caribbean domestic and duty free markets, and in US duty free, effective today (30 March).

Rhum Barbancourt was established in 1862 by Dupré Barbancourt, originally from Charente in France. His distinctive production methods, which have been retained, included the use of Haitian sugarcane juice, double distillation and ageing in French oak.
The Rhum Barbancourt portfolio includes four, eight and 15-year-old blends, a white rum and a mango/pineapple spiced rum. |
Monarq Group Founder and CEO Robert de Monchy said: “Rhum Barbancourt is the oldest existing rum distillery in Haiti and is synonymous with the rich and storied Haitian culture and identity.
“It was our wish for many years to start working with Rhum Barbancourt. It is one of those iconic true brands, offering a unique rum portfolio from the heart of the region that we operate in as a company.
“We look forward to building the Rhum Barbancourt portfolio together with Delphine Gardère Molere and her team to grow this unique brand throughout the markets of Latin America and the Caribbean plus US duty free, including cruise ships.”
Rhum Barbancourt Owner and CEO Delphine Gardère Molere described Monarq as a “like-minded” company.
“Monarq has a strong reputation and portfolio, from which we can certainly benefit. We look forward to reinforcing Rhum Barbancourt’s positioning as a global ambassador for Haiti and to this strong collaboration which will benefit both our trade customers and, most importantly, our consumers in these markets.”
Monarq Group’s views on digitalisation, premiumisation and the rise of the ‘hybrid’ travel retail model were revealed in a recent interview with The Moodie Davitt Report.
Monarq Group is a Silver Partner of the forthcoming Summit of the Americas – A Virtual Experience.
As reported, the all-digital Summit of the Americas is being organised by the International Association of Airport and Duty Free Stores (IAADFS) and Asociación Sudamericana de Tiendas Libres (ASUTIL) in partnership with The Moodie Davitt Report (which organised the successful Virtual Travel Retail Expo from 12-16 October).
There is still time to register for the week-long event and join around 800 delegates who have already confirmed their places.
Visitor registration (free to all travel retailers and airport companies) remains open at the official event website.
