Montblanc marks Meisterstück’s 90th year with anniversary collection

Montblanc is celebrating the 90th anniversary of its iconic Meisterstück fountain pen with the launch of the Meisterstück Collection.

Manufactured in Hamburg since 1924, the Meisterstück is said to embody Montblanc’s quest for perfection, with its functional, attractive design, the innovative ink-feeding system and its hand-engraved gold nib with an iridium tip.

The Meisterstück Collection features a selection of leather goods, timepieces and jewellery, as well as a new writing instrument collection with red gold nibs and a limited time special engravings.

The Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage timepieces are made by skilled craftsmen in the Montblanc Manufactures in Villeret and Le Locle, Switzerland, while the leather goods – featuring the Soft Grain collection made of supple calfskin – are crafted in Montblanc’s Pelletteria in Florence.

A curated set of bracelets, key rings and timeless cuff links with a bar motif in onyx, all designed in Paris, round out the accessories range.

Writing instruments

The Meisterstück pen collection comprises the quintessential 149 fountain pen, Classique and LeGrand fountain pens, rollerball and ballpoint. Each writing instrument is crafted in black resin and adorned with red gold-plated fittings, and presented in a gift box wrapped with a 1924 replica sleeve. The fountain pens feature engraved (Au750/Au585) solid red gold nibs.

A Special Edition assortment available only on the year of the anniversary offers the fountain pen, rollerball and ballpoint pen in Classique size. Features include guilloche engraving coated with black lacquer, mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem, red gold-plated fittings and Au750 gold nibs with a special 90 Years design.

Paying homage to the first Skeleton Pen created in 1999 for the Meisterstück 75th anniversary is a new 90 Years edition which comes with delicately skeletonized, ruthenium-plated cap and barrel, topped by a quartz Montblanc emblem. Furthermore, it has ruthenium-plated fittings and a special 90 Years design engraved on an Au750 solid red gold nib.

The Limited Edition 90 completes the writing instrument offerings. Comprised of a fountain pen and a rollerball in LeGrand size, this release is limited to 90 pieces of each. They feature a cap ring set with 90 diamonds, solid red gold attributes with guilloche engraving, a mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem, and Au750 gold nib with rhodium-plated inlay with a special 90 Years design.

Leather goods

Available in black and beige, the Meisterstück Soft Grain line offers briefcases, messenger and tote bags, as well as accessories such as wallets, business card and passport holders.

Made of soft grain leather, the pieces are lined with a graphic, historical Jacquard pattern based on Montblanc’s 1924 logo for this occasion.

Additional technical functions include cases for smartphones and tablets for Apple and Samsung that marry extra-slim design and fine finishing with protective mouldings. Metallic buckles come in shiny palladium while snow-cap emblems are casted in precious resin.

The leather goods range is characterised by soft grain leather and a graphic Jacquard pattern, while jewellery and accessories are inspired by the Meisterstück’s iconic details

Men’s jewellery

Inspired by the Meisterstück’s iconic details, the collection of men’s jewellery and accessories features refined engravings, black resin interpreted with black onyx and red gold-coloured finish which is said to highlight the jewellery pieces “through their unique contrast”.

Furthermore, the stainless steel collection – which includes cufflinks, bracelets and key holders – pays tribute to the Meisterstück writing instrument with platinum accents and genuine Montblanc engravings on the rim.

Timepieces

The clearly defined design codes are said to be an important component in the Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage Collection.

The time is indicated by facetted hands of classic dauphine shape on bombé, silver-white dials finished with a soleil motif. The chapter ring comprises polished applique markers, also facetted in shape. The surfaces finish, like the horizontal satin-brushing of the middle case, underline the classical shape of the 39mm and 41mm wristwatches. The crown displays the Montblanc emblem as a polished motif in relief against a matt, microblasted background.

The Meisterstück Heritage Collection incorporates these elements in all models, from the classic three-handed watch with date, the moon-phase watch to the complications of a perpetual calendar or a monopusher chronograph.

The Montblanc manufacture calibre MB M13.21 of the Montblanc Meisterstück Heritage Pulsograph was developed and is manually manufactured and finely adjusted in-house. It combines the classical construction of a mono pusher chronograph with the artisanal manual finishing and decoration of fine Swiss watchmaking.

Its traditional hand finished Minerva arrow can be seen through the sapphire crystal case back. The pulsometer scale along the dial’s periphery is graduated up to 30 pulse beats and is shown on the outer edge of the dial.

Blued steel is the material of choice for the chronograph’s central elapsed-seconds hand and for the arrow-shaped hand of the counter for 30 elapsed minutes. A coating of red gold embellishes the hour and minute hands and the applique hour markers, complementing the 18 karat red gold of the 41-mm-diameter case. A Montblanc diamond, cut and polished to form the emblem of the Maison, is inset into the middle piece of the case at 6 o’clock.

The collection is limited to 90 timepieces in tribute to the 90th anniversary of the Montblanc Meisterstück writing instrument.

The Montblanc Meisterstück Collection is now available in Montblanc boutiques worldwide.
