Montblanc partners with Emirates to create charity writing instrument

Montblanc has created a limited-edition writing instrument in support of Emirates Airline’s philanthropic efforts with the goal of raising US$1 million over the next five years

To support Emirates Airline Foundation’s philanthropic efforts, Montblanc has created the Montblanc Emirates Airline Foundation Ballpoint Pen, which will be available exclusively onboard Emirates flights, and online, from February 2014.

The Meisterstück Solitaire Classique Ballpoint Pen features a ruby gemstone, which mirrors Emirates Airline’s corporate colours, and a platinum plated clip with an engraving of the Emirates Airline Foundation motif in the stainless steel cap top ring.

The Foundation aims to give children the best quality of life regardless of geographic, political or religious boundaries by providing healthcare, building homes, supporting food programmes and schools, as well as providing scholarship funding, among other activities.

For each writing instrument sold onboard and via www.emirateshighstreet.com, 20% of the proceeds will be donated to the foundation. Montblanc and Emirates Airline Foundation are aiming to raise US$1 million over the five-year initiative.

Montblanc International Managing Director of Writing, Culture, Leather and Jewellery Christian Rauch said that Montblanc had long been a supporter of worldwide philanthropic initiatives. Its partnership with the Foundation highlights the brand’s presence in the Middle East and is significant for travel retail.

“We are delighted to make this substantial commitment to an organisation which makes a difference to thousands of young lives every single day, and to offer Emirates customers the opportunity to own a distinctive writing instrument that also contributes in a meaningful way to the future of our world,” said Rauch, who presented a cheque for US$150,000 to Emirates Airline Foundation, at the launch of the Montblanc Emirates Airline Foundation Ballpoint Pen at the Emirates Airline headquarters in Dubai.

Emirates Airline Divisional Senior Vice President of Service Delivery Terry Daly accepted the donation on behalf of the Foundation, and said that Emirates Airline was honoured by Montblanc’s support for its Foundation. “The creation of a writing instrument by one of the most well-known luxury brands in the world, with particular and exclusive references to Emirates and the Foundation in its design, is exciting,” said Daly. “But understanding that the sale of each writing instrument will generate funds for the Foundation over the next five years, is even more exciting.”
