Montevideo International Airport secures further air services

URUGUAY. Puerta del Sur, the operator of Montevideo Carrasco International Airport, has announced a number of new routes and services as it rebuilds air links to Uruguay.

LATAM is increasing its services to provide ten daily flights from Montevideo to Rio-Sao Paulo and Santiago de Chile.

“We are working to make more announcements in the second half of the year” – Diego Arrosa, CEO, Puerta del Sur

Iberia will commence four direct flights a week between Montevideo and Madrid from 4 September 2014.

Amaszonas will introduce a service from Montevideo to Bolivia from July this year.

“We are working to make more announcements in the second half of the year in order to increase connectivity with Central and North America,” Puerta del Sur Chief Executive Officer Diego Arrosa told The Moodie Report.

“This is creating healthy dynamism in ticket prices, which is resulting in a strong incentive to travel by air.”

As reported, the July 2012 collapse of Uruguayan flag carrier Pluna was a heavy blow for Montevideo International.

Puerta del Sur has prioritised route development, with carriers like Air France and Air Europa coming on board in 2013.

Dufry is the airport’s duty free concessionaire, trading as Duty Free Uruguay.
