Monus Tobacco Company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing plant can produce 10,000 sticks per minute

SERBIA. Serbia-based Monus Tobacco Company has announced its entry into the duty free market with its new De Santis cigarette brand.

Monus Tobacco Company announces the release of its De Santis range of cigarettes, available in Red and White varieties, in both regular and slim sizes

Monus Tobacco Company, which has been in business for 10 years, offers two varieties: Red (tar: 10mg; nicotine: 1mg; carbon monoxide: 10mg) and White (tar: 7mg; nicotine: 1mg; carbon monoxide: 7mg). Both options are available in regular and slim formats.

Both the Reds and Whites are sold in octagonal packaging that aesthetically brings together the themes of modernity and tradition, the company said.

Monus Tobacco Company’s products are currently on sale domestically in Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Iraq and Syria.

In duty free, Monus recently signed contracts with Dufry Serbia, Romanian Duty Free and Hellenic Duty Free Shops in Greece.

The company is now in talks with duty free operators in the Middle East to extend its reach even further.

“While we’re relatively new to the duty free industry, our brands Monus Slims and Fast have really done well domestically and we’re looking to parlay that success as we move into the travel retail sector,” said Monus General Manager Zivojin Zorkic.

“Indeed, since their introduction in 2001, Fast cigarettes have become best-sellers, and our unique flavours (Monus Slims apple and grape varieties) are proving very popular as well. Add to this the introduction of De Santis and we feel that all of our brands are particularly strong in the areas that matter most to consumers: quality, taste and variety.”

State-of-the-art manufacturing plant

At the core of the business is the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing plant, constructed in 2005 at a cost of €60 million (US$73.6 million). The company calls it the most modern cigarette-producing facility in Europe, noting that the plant is able to produce 10,000 sticks per minute.

With six manufacturing lines and the capacity to pack 4,000kg per hour, Monus exports 150 tons of cigarettes per month while selling an additional 300 tons domestically. The conditioning, blending, cutting, drying, flavouring, filter-making and packing processes are all performed by automated machines, and research is also carried out in Monus’ laboratory to ensure the highest-quality product possible.

“In addition to the launch of the De Santis range, we’re currently in the developmental stage for another brand called Tzar,” explained Zorkic. “It will be a super-premium cigarette of unmatched quality, available in a shoulder box. At Monus we pride ourselves on innovation and for this reason continually seek to offer our customers more choices.”
