本周热点资讯一览如下。

You can see highlights below from this week’s edition.

South Korea hits the headlines; Shanghai Hongqiao’s foodie delights

Interestingly, our post on overseas consumers being able to purchase Korean items through online duty free without visiting the Republic was our best-read story during the week 7-14 February. The readership underlines just how closely the Chinese travel retail community (and the authorities) watch the South Korean duty free market – the world’s biggest.

Our exclusive story on Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport’s vibrant and recently enhanced retail and F&B offer also drew plenty of readers.

All the stories below also attracted heavy traffic on our English language website.

Head to head between Hainan and Korea: Leading the news this week is how Hainan’s burgeoning offshore duty free sector has once again narrowed the gap between it and the world’s largest duty free market, South Korea. Business in Hainan has got off to a strong start in 2022 with sales surging by +151% year-on-year during the recent Spring Festival holidays. But for the troubled South Korean market the outlook is much less certain. A fuller version of the English story will appear in the next edition of The Moodie Davitt Report Magazine, out later this month. Click here for the WeChat version.
Ready for a strong debut: Another major story centres on the Estée Lauder Companies’ decision to participate in the second annual China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo). This not only marks the company’s debut at the show but also offers a tremendous boost to the event which will take place in Haikou, Hainan from 12-16 April. “Why I am sticking with Hong Kong” – As the figures above confirm, the latest post on Moodie Davitt Report Founder and Chairman Martin Moodie’s popular Blog attracted huge attention when originally posted. In it, he describes how the Omicron variant has caused havoc in Hong Kong but says that he views the Special Administrative Region in a long-term and wholly positive manner. “An important window for China” – China Duty Free Group looks set to make a powerhouse appearance at the second China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo). The world’s leading retailer intends to have representatives of over 200 duty free shops at the event where it will also be a major exhibitor. A landmark celebration: A red-letter day for Shenzhen Duty Free Haikou Mission Hills Duty Free City on 31 January as the retailer celebrated its debut in Hainan’s booming offshore duty free market just one year earlier. We present a summary of the year’s highlights and note Shenzhen Duty Free’s strong partnership with DFS Group. The retailer plans to showcase its development and retail offer at the Hainan Expo in April. A fuller version of the English story will appear in the next edition of The Moodie Davitt Report Magazine, out later this month. Click here for the WeChat version.
From Ireland to island: Bacardi Global Travel Retail (GTR) launches the Teeling Whiskey – The Vintage Reserve Collection exclusively with China Duty Free Group in Hainan as the drinks group deepens its commitment to the vital China market. Bacardi GTR aims to build a strong following among whisk(e)y fans in China, led by its presence and investment in the Hainan offshore duty free market. Celebrating in style: Shiseido Travel Retail has welcomed the Year of the Tiger with a high-impact 3D video animation for prestige brand Shiseido at the entrance of Hainan Tourism Duty Free Shopping Complex in Sanya. The pioneering 3D initiative is a first for Shiseido Company, Limited, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. Click here for our WeChat story and here for our original English version.

Looking back to look ahead: In an encouraging message to the travel retail community, Lagardère Travel Retail Chairman & CEO Dag Rasmussen has predicted a return to pre-pandemic 2019 revenues in 2023. China has played a starring role for the French group with revenues in the Chinese mainland soaring by +119% compared with pre-pandemic 2019.
