More fashion brands join the retail line-up of Auckland Airport’s outlet centre Mānawa Bay

The outlet centre is on track for opening in the second half of next year

NEW ZEALAND. Auckland Airport has added more global brands to the retail line-up of its planned NZ$200 million (US$119.4 million) premium outlet shopping destination, Mānawa Bay.

Popular American fashion labels Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein are set to occupy two large stores that will anchor the northern end of the centre, with a total combined area of 1,400sq m.

Mānawa Bay will house major retailers including Converse & Hurley, Lorna Jane, Citrine & Co and two brands with their first-ever outlet stores in New Zealand, Swarovski and Helly Hansen, with more due to be announced soon.

As previously announced, other brands on the list include Kate Spade, Coach, Puma, Fila, Under Armour and Flo & Frankie.

Mānawa Bay’s retail offer will include an extensive selection of global fashion and lifestyle brands

According to Auckland Airport Chief Commercial Officer Mark Thomson, more than 60% of the net lettable areas are now under either signed Heads of Terms or agreement to lease. He said: “We’re proud to be sharing a selection of the tenants signing up to Mānawa Bay, it’s an exciting time for this project and the experience this will bring to customers seeking quality outlet shopping in New Zealand.

“The centre is setting a new benchmark for outlet shopping in New Zealand. It’s creating the ultimate experience for customers and this is proving to resonate with leading retailers, including global fashion houses, athleisure and everyday wear brands.”

In 2022, Auckland Airport broke ground on the 150,000sq m site in the northeast of the airport precinct.

Construction of the purpose-built outlet centre is on schedule for completion in the second half of 2024.

The two-skinned insulated roof is half complete and a third of the concrete shop floors have already been poured, with over 1,000sq m of floor being poured each week, the airport company noted.

The centre will house more than 100 retail stores with an easy-to-navigate figure-of-eight layout.

The dining precinct will feature ten dining concepts, connecting to an alfresco space, overlooking the outdoor play area. It makes the most of its water-facing location and will embrace large, light-filled open spaces.

Three additional F&B offers will be included within the centre.

The outlet is conveniently located near a main arterial route, with access to public transport options. It is a four-minute drive from Auckland Airport’s domestic and international terminals.

Mānawa Bay will support what’s seen to be the largest rooftop solar system in New Zealand on top of the 35,000sq m building. It will generate 2.3 megawatts of electricity, supporting more than 80% of the centre’s anticipated power usage.

No natural or LPG gas will be used on site, making it the country’s first-ever fully electric dining area at a shopping centre.

Targeting a 5 Green star sustainability rating, Mānawa Bay is committed to a number of key sustainability initiatives throughout its construction, including optimising resources, reducing carbon emissions, enhancing the local environment and supporting local communities.

Mānawa Bay aims to divert 90% of its construction waste from landfill. As of September 2023, a total of 89% of construction waste had been diverted from landfill.
