More Hainan offshore duty free openings confirmed for early 2021

CHINA. The Chinese authorities today announced details of further offshore duty free enterprises to be located in Haikou and Sanya on Hainan island.

The Hainan Free Trade Port official WeChat account revealed the news moments ago, noting that the six shops (three of which are being opened today) will add an additional 220,000sq m of shopping space to the current offshore duty free shopping offer.

Large-scale discounts will encourage consumption and offer shoppers a convenient and comfortable consumer experience, the report said.

The businesses are:

  • Haikong Global Boutique (Haikou) Duty Free City: Located in the east area of ​​Riyue Square, Guoxing Avenue, Haikou City, it will open in January 2021. We will bring you more details on this store soon.
  • Shenzhen Mission Hills Duty Free Shopping City in Haikou: Located in Mission Hills New Town, Yangshan Avenue, Haikou City, it will open in January 2021. [As reported, DFS will be supporting licence holder Shenzhen Duty Free, the two companies having enjoyed a long and successful relationship over recent years.]
  • CDF Haikou Meilan Airport T2 Terminal Duty Free Shop: Located in Haikou Meilan Airport T2 Terminal, it will open in early 2021.
  • Sanya Hailu Duty Free City: Located at No.303 Yingbin Road, Sanya City, it opened today [trading as Hainan Tourism Downtown Duty Free Shopping Complex, run by Hainan Tourism Investment Duty Free Co with supply and support services from Lagardère Travel Retail -Ed]

  • CNSC Sanya International Duty Free Plaza inauguration: Located in Hongzhou Plaza, Jiefang 1st Road, Sanya City, it opened today (below, report to follow soon)
  • CDF Sanya Phoenix Airport Duty Free Shop: Located at Sanya Phoenix Airport, it opened today. In the first phase, a new store of around 800sq m has opened in T1, alongside new pick-up points for sales made at off-airport duty free stores.

Before today, Hainan Free Trade Port had four duty free shops, namely CDF’s Haikou Meilan Airport T1 Duty Free Shop; CDF’s Haikou City Riyue Square West District Duty Free Shop; CDF Sanya Haitang Bay International Duty Free City; and CDF in Bo’ao, Qionghai Boao.
