Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport passenger traffic climbs sharply in 2021

RUSSIA. Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport served 30.9 million passengers in 2021, a leap of +56% compared to a year earlier but still well short of the 50 million recorded in 2019.

Sheremetyevo, which was ranked second among airports in Europe for passenger volumes last year, saw international traffic climb +43% year-on-year to just under 10 million. Domestic traffic surged +63% to over 21 million.

In December, passenger traffic more than doubled (+105%) year-on-year to 2.6 million, with international volumes up by +253% to 915,000.

The most popular foreign destinations in 2021 were Antalya, Yerevan, Istanbul, Malé and Bishkek. Within Russia the leading destinations for traffic were Sochi, Simferopol, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Krasnodar.
