GERMANY. Munich Airport has opened a new recreation area for passengers waiting for flights.
Located in Terminal 2 Level G (Schengen departures), the 220sq m area has 34 reclining seats and 20 business stations with power connections for computers and mobile devices. Plants and special lighting enhance the sense of calm in the area and monitors have been positioned to allow passengers to check their flight status.
The redesigned waiting area was developed by T2BG – the T2 operating company, held jointly by Munich Airport and Lufthansa – in cooperation with furniture maker Vitra and the Munich design office studio PS.
A similar recreation area that opened on Departure Level H (Non-Schengen) in mid-2012 has proven “very popular” with passengers, according to T2BG.

T2BG Managing Directors Christian Wallner and Marc Stadtlander see improving passenger comfort and the quality of amenities in T2 as an ongoing process.
“The outstanding range and quality of services in T2 is a major reason behind the repeated successes of Munich Airport in the World Airport Awards and for our being selected Europe’s best airport yet again this year,” Wallner said.
“Lufthansa passengers not only enjoy fast and smooth transfers to connecting flights in Munich. Thanks to the attractive surroundings, they also find that their waiting time just flies by,” Stadtlander added.
Access to the recreation areas is free of charge for all passengers.
