Munich Airport reveals dining & retail offer for new satellite

GERMANY. Munich Airport has revealed the shopping and dining offer for the satellite terminal linked to T2, which opens in April 2016. The new facility serves Lufthansa passengers.

The range will feature German and international brands, well-known Bavarian retailers and local bars and restaurants. The business will be managed by Munich Airport subsidiaries Eurotrade and Allresto as well as other partners such as HMSHost (in food).

The heart of the building is the central marketplace, said to be flooded with natural light around the apron tower. It will include three core category duty free shops, 16 retail stores and seven food & drinks locations across 7,000sq m of space on two levels (Schengen and non-Schengen).

The retail stores in the satellite will feature a Bavarian Sense of Place, said Munich Airport

“Bavarian traditions and hospitality, Munich’s unique lifestyle and the blending of nature with state-of-the-art technology – these were the guiding principles behind the architectural design of the dining and shopping area,” said Munich Airport Senior Vice President of Commercial Activities Rainer Beeck.

The retail offer will house local names such as Steiff and Picard alongside brand such as Victoria’s Secret and Val Laack. Alongside fashion & accessories there will be zones for watches & jewellery, souvenirs and electronics. The core category duty free stores will feature a strong Bavarian look, with the traditional blue and white livery of the provincial flag running through the design.

In food, an Allresto café will offer chef Alfons Schuhbeck’s sandwich creations, with unusual spreads and freshly baked bread and rolls. The restaurant features a display kitchen, where guests can watch the chefs making the food. Schuhbeck’s “˜Viktualienmarkt’ area is named for the renowned outdoor marketplace in Munich city centre.

Also coming to Munich Airport when the satellite terminal opens are gourmet hamburgers from Munich’s Hans im Glück.

There is a diverse flavour to the food & drinks offer, with a heavy accent on well-known names from Bavaria

Sissi & Franz – said to be “an edgy re-imagining of Vienna coffee house culture and courtly traditions” – bridges the culinary gap between Bavaria and Austria. The Lenbachs tower bar is the focal point of the marketplace. Its architecture and decor were inspired by the Bavarian painter Franz von Lenbach, said Munich Airport.

Next door, the Bubbles Bar, operated by Autogrill, offers fresh seafood and premium wines, with views over the airport’s eastern apron. Autogrill will also run Amo, which will combine an Italian restaurant with a coffee bar, focusing on quick service.
