Munich Airport smashes records with +11% traffic rise – 08/10/07

GERMANY. Munich Airport cemented its status as one of the top performing major airports in Europe today after announcing record quarterly results and setting new records for passengers and aircraft movements.

Approximately 10 million passengers passed through the airport in the three holiday months of July, August and September 2007, nearly one million more than in the same period last year. The 122,000 passengers handled on 28 September set a new single-day passenger record at the airport.

In the period from January to September 2007, nearly 25.6 million passengers used the airport – an increase of about +11% over the same period a year earlier – a performance that has seen the airport surpass year-end figures for 2003 after only three quarters of the current operating year.

Intercontinental passenger growth in the third quarter was up +19% on the previous year, with the US, Thailand, Brazil, Qatar, South Africa and South Korea, in particular, seeing above-average growth in passenger numbers.

Eastern European routes also saw upswings (+22%) with strong development seen on flights to and from Poland, Romania, Albania and destinations in the Russian Federation.

Commercial take-offs and landings increased by +5% during the first nine months of the year to more than 315,000 flights.
