OMAN. Muscat International Airport’s new terminal is scheduled to open tomorrow (20 March) with capacity for 20 million passengers a year. It will house an extensive commercial offer.
In advance of the move, lead retailer Muscat Duty Free has revealed new branding. At a special event on 15 March, under the patronage of Her Excellency Undersecretary of the Tourism Ministry Maitha Saif Al Mahrouqi, the retailer launched its new logo and identity. The company said on social media that this would be “a breakthrough to build a new future”.
Muscat Duty Free, the joint venture between Aer Rianta International-Middle East (ARI-ME) & Oman Air, will manage 18 stores in more than 6,200sq m of retail space, with the area for duty free doubling compared to the existing terminal. It will feature the core duty free categories alongside fashion & accessories, electronics, food & delicatessen and toys, across departures and arrivals. The company said today that its preparations for the opening were on track. We’ll bring you images of the new stores shortly.
Turkish company BTA Catering will manage around 5,000sq m of food & beverage space, an increase of +80% compared to the existing facility, with space for other retail and lounges increasing by around four times.
Other key concessions include WHSmith (news & books); BeRelax (spa); Gallery Argan (offering gold and jewellery); Travelex; TAV Operations Services (Prime Class lounge), Seal & Go (bag wrapping) and a Plaza Premium (Aerotel) airside hotel.
Oman Airports has said it expects non-aeronautical revenues to double as a result of the new terminal opening. Muscat Airport handled 14 million passengers in 2017.
