Choosing from the comprehensive Alpha portfolio, MyTravel tailored its choices to the options that would appeal most to its customers and has also included children’s and vegetarian dishes |
UK. MyTravel Airways and Alpha Airports Group are pioneering a “˜trayless’ in-flight meal service that marks a radical departure from the airline food traditionally served by charter airlines.
Created by Alpha, the new meal range brings airline food into the 21st century with contemporary food and disposable packaging.
The new meals replace the old, high maintenance plastic tray service with a disposable “˜roll mat’. Passengers are handed cutlery and other cold items inside the rolled up mat, which opens up to cover their tray table. And once the meal is eaten everything can be disposed in their own personal waste bag, offering the freedom to eat and go, making waiting for trays to be cleared a thing of the past.
The new concept is also described as “a win-win” for families as it puts parents firmly back in control, freeing up their tray tables from leftovers, making for a better, clutter-free inflight experience.
MyTravel Airways is serving new meal concepts from a portfolio developed by Alpha, called Blue Sky Service. On short and long haul flights, passengers will receive a meal from the “˜Applebury’s range based on comfort food with a real home cooked feel, such as bangers and mash, creamy chicken bake or farmhouse cottage pie. Second service on the longhaul is the “˜Café Society’ range, offering a deep filled honey roast ham and cheese ciabatta served with Kenco coffee and a tempting chocolate treat.
The meals were developed by Alpha following extensive research and onboard consumer testing which examined the types of passengers using charter airlines and created six meal range concepts. Choosing from the comprehensive Alpha portfolio, MyTravel tailored its choices to the options that would appeal most to its customers and has also included children’s and vegetarian dishes.
Following extensive consumer onboard tasting trials to over 6,000 MyTravel Airways customers, the new in-flight meal range is now available on board and customer feedback has been extremely positive. Customers not only enjoy the new look of the meals, but the bigger portion sizes and the tasty “˜home from home’ cuisine.
MyTravel Airways Managing Director Frank Pullman said: “We believe that this new inflight meal range is a first for charter and we’re proud to be part of this pioneering new concept, and for our customers to be the first to see, taste and enjoy.”
Alpha Airports Group Chief Executive Kevin Abbott, added: “By introducing Blue Sky Service on all its flights, MyTravel Airways is trail blazing for the charter market. MyTravel shared Alpha’s vision of shaking up the concept of in-flight meals and our partnership work means that the finished product has been greeted with enthusiasm by airline staff and passengers alike.”
