USA. Nashville International Airport (BNA) will tomorrow (27 September) open an International Arrivals Facility (IAF) and BNA Marketplace, the latter featuring a wide array of retail and food & beverage units.
The facilities are an essential part of the BNA Vision construction and renovation plan, an expansion project launched in 2017 to transform BNA into a world-class airport.
Speaking at the special preview event, BNA President and CEO Doug Kreulen said: “BNA Vision was designed to take Nashville International Airport to the next level and meet the travel needs of Middle Tennessee not just today, tomorrow, or next year, but well into the future.
“Not only does the International Arrivals Facility greatly increase our ability to serve international flights and travellers, it also opens the door for future non-stop air service to Europe, Asia, Latin America and other regions.”
The International Arrivals Facility features six new gates and facilities designed to accommodate a growing influx of international travellers to and from Middle Tennessee, with ample apron space for larger planes.
In addition, these gates will also accommodate domestic flights, further expanding the airport capacity.
The facility features a new Customs and Border Protection zone designed to ease immigration and customs processes and can serve 800 passengers per hour using the latest biometric technology.
Other attractions include artworks and installations featuring Music City’s [Nashville’s familiar unoffficial title) rich history through a collection of photographs.
The arrivals facility also has a 1,000sq ft mural titled ‘Nashville’s Rhythmic Skies’ by local muralist Eric ‘Mobe’ Bass .
A 650sqs ft ‘Welcome to Nashville’ sign, sited directly above ten expandable customs processing booths greets passengers.
The BNA Marketplace houses 15 F&B and retail vendors and service amenities, with a special focus on local brands. These include Acme Feed & Seed and Titans Press Box, a full-service restaurant and bar in partnership with the Tennessee Titans. Adding to the list of dining options are Voodoo Doughnut and Kitty Hawk, a fast-casual eatery offering made-to-order dishes and convenient grab-and-go options.
Other dining and retail locations include Hattie B’s, Smashville, Goo Goo Shop and Tennessee Moonshine Bar. As reported, concessions developer Fraport USA last week opened Tennessee Whiskey Company, Time For A Shine (two locations), Galleria Duty Free/Duty Paid, Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum and Sunglass Hut.
The IAF and the BNA Marketplace mark the completion of the Terminal Lobby Renovation, a 400,000sq ft project including the new Grand Lobby, which was unveiled in January 2023. The master architect for BNA Vision is Corgan, and the design-build team for the Grand Lobby and International Arrivals Facility is Hensel Phelps and Fentress Architects.
With BNA Vision in its final stages, construction on the next phase of projects is now underway to meet the region’s continued growth trajectory.
The New Horizon, which was announced in June 2022, is a US$1.5 billion improvement and expansion plan for two concourses, a new air freight building, terminal roadway improvements and additional upgrades to further enhance the traveller experience.
The project will be phased in over the next six years, scheduled to be finished in late 2028. ✈
