New concept for Seattle cruise terminal approved

US. Nitze-Stagen, a Seattle-based real estate firm, this week confirmed its plan for the development of Terminal 46 on Seattle’s waterfront.

The master plan includes a new cruise ship terminal and various transport improvements, five-star hotel, shopping mall, housing, public parks and public access to the waterfront. Other features to be decided are a trade conservatory to highlight Washington exports and a research or office park. The proposal also provides for a number of options for the southern end of the area, which might include an indoor or outdoor sports stadium.

“Every aspect of this proposal is geared to making Seattle a more livable place,” said Nitze-Stagen vice chairman and ceo Frank Stagen. “We have designed the property to take into account the needs of nearby neighbourhoods, transportation planners, the Port of Seattle, the City and economic development advocates.”

Stagen said: “Sydney, Australia is known for its harbour front opera house. We believe this proposal has the potential to build the same kind of iconic landmarks on Seattle’s waterfront.”

Stagen also said that the proposal for Terminal 46 is a natural extension of the Port of Seattle’s economic development mission. The Port owns Terminal 46, which is currently operated as a container terminal and has plans of its own to redevelop Terminals 90 and 91 on the Seattle waterfront.
