New-look retail and F&B unveiled amid Gothenburg Landvetter upgrade

Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport has added 1,000sq m of commercial space

SWEDEN. Arlanda Schiphol Development Company (ASDC) opened the latest phase of the newly redeveloped international terminal at Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport in October – with further phases to come until the project is completed next February.

A range of new retail and food & beverage outlets lie at the heart of the revamped commercial areas in the terminal. As reported, this includes a 1,000sq m store operated by The Nuance Group under the Duty Free Store concept.

In addition, the area features the following new concepts: a Press stop convenience store, a book store by Swedish retailer Pocket Shop, a fashion store operated by Airport Retail Group and a souvenir and toy shop with Swedish design brands.

In the F&B category ASDC has opened (in addition to the Scrimshaw bar unveiled late last year) a café operated by Espresso House, a Street Food restaurant, a concept developed by SSP in cooperation with Swedish master chef Marcus Samuelsson, a deli unit (SSP) and a new O’Leary’s restaurant & bar (SSP).

Earlier this year Landvetter Airport also opened a new security control for international travellers, which ASDC described as “unique in the context of airports”. Passengers come through a lounge environment which differs from how security traditionally looks at airports, though with the same security levels.

Food & beverage is a critical element in the redevelopment

ASDC Managing Director Roel Huinink told The Moodie Report: “The airside area has gone through a true transformation with completely changed passenger flows, ceilings, lighting, flooring and new shop branding – plus modern passenger orientation points (integrated flight information in seats) to come before the end of this year.”

Huinink added: “With a 1,000sq m expansion of commercial space, ASDC is projecting a rise in spend per passenger in the order of +20% or more compared to before the investment. Crucially too, the airport is aiming to increase its passenger satisfaction ratings.”

A number of new concepts will be added in the months ahead and we’ll bring you news of these soon. The official inauguration takes place in February 2013.
