CHINA. SSP has become the latest Platinum Sponsor of The ACI Airport Business & Trinity Forum to be held in Shanghai on 31 March-2 April.
The event, commonly known as The Trinity Forum, is the world’s leading airport commercial revenues conference. It is a joint venture between Airports Council International and The Moodie Report. This year’s event is being hosted by Shanghai Airport Authority.
SSP, the UK-based airport food & beverage specialist, joins P&G Prestige Products and Lagardère Services, the owner of Aelia and HDS, as a Platinum Sponsor.
Other key sponsors include Nuance-Watson (HK), King Power Group (HK), HMSHost, Dubai Duty Free, MCM, Shanghai Tang, The Estée Lauder Companies and Villiger.
SSP, which is also a sponsor of the Airport Service Quality conference that precedes The Trinity Forum in Shanghai, will be showing its new logo (pictured), part of a broader brand communications programme revealed at the ACI Trading Conference in Verona, Italy this week.
China is a key target for the group, which in late November announced it had won a contract to operate ten units at Shanghai Pudong International Airport’s new Terminal 2 which will open in coming weeks. Trinity delegates will be given a guided tour of the terminal after the Forum concludes on 2 April.
SSP’s Pudong contract, which will run for seven years, is valued at CNY1,600 million (US$206 million). The first units will begin trading when the new terminal opens in March. Among the brands that will feature at the facility are Caffè Ritazza, dumpling concept Tian Xia, Burger King and Heineken.
SSP will also offer a number of specially tailored concepts and selected local franchises. These include a Teppanyaki Japanese restaurant, which will serve stir-fries prepared and served from a large table-top grill. In addition a fine dining concept called Peace @ the Bund will recreate the atmosphere of 1930s Shanghai. With its elegant and understated décor the restaurant will serve a range of traditional Chinese dishes with a contemporary twist. Other units include a Chinese tea house, a Chinese restaurant serving Shanghai and Cantonese cuisine, a Korean fast food outlet and an Italian restaurant.

The Trinity Forum speakers’ line-up is one of the most diverse and powerful seen at an airport commercial revenues conference.

Shanghai Airport Authority is the proud host of the world’s premier airport commercial revenues conference |
The Trinity Forum will also feature a unique insight into shopper (and non-shopper) behaviour at a prominent UK airport. French retailer Aelia has agreed to allow in-store filming of its duty free operation at Luton Airport near London. The filming is being conducted by Consumer Watch, a joint venture between The Moodie Report and consumer behaviour specialist Counter Intelligence Retail, whose owner Garry Stasiulevicuis will present and analyse the film.
The presentation will also feature an ‘Eye Watch’ mobile eye-level camera – a unique technology being utilised by Counter Intelligence Retail and The Moodie Report to track the store experience through the eyes of a consumer. It helps identify what shoppers are looking at or not looking at – product, signage, and displays – and observes through their eyes how they look at packaging and products on fixture.
Registrations are now flowing in fast. Companies and organisations set to attend so far include Aelia, Aéroporti de Roma, Aéroports de Montréal, Aéroports de Paris, Aéroport du Quebec, Aéroport International de Genève, Airport Authority Hong Kong, Airports Council International, Airports of Thailand, Aldeasa, Aldeasa Vancouver, Alpha Group, Athens International Airport, Auckland Airport, Australia Pacific Airports Corporation, AWPL Retail Solutions and Association of Asia Pacific Airlines.
