Newrest expands in Cambodia and Myanmar with EM Food Services acquisition

ASIA PACIFIC. France-based travel food services specialist Newrest is expanding its business in Cambodia and Myanmar with the acquisition of EM Food Services.

Family-owned, Singapore-headquartered EM Food Services Pte Ltd was founded in 2009 by Alain Dupuis. The food & beverage specialist business now makes €20 million in revenue a year.

With the acquisition, Newrest said it expects to significantly speed up its business development in Asia’s contract food services market and build its retail (bar and restaurant management) activities under concessions in the region’s airports.

Like Dupuis, EM Food Services shareholder Lars Crone, a well-known figure in the travel F&B world, will be leaving the business.

Crone said: “The Dupuis family and its partners are excited at the idea of welcoming the Newrest Group to Cambodia and Myanmar. The expertise in out-of-home food services of a group such as Newrest, which has already built an extensive international operation, combined with its ability to make acquisitions while protecting the DNA of each of its companies, will ensure growth and further success for our company and our employees.”

EM Food Services manages and operates airport food concessions with EMCAT, contract catering under Hagar Catering and food production facilities with Mekong Food Services at more than 60 sites, with 1,000 employees serving more than 14 million meals or food products per year.

Newrest is active in all catering and related hospitality segments including airline catering, buy-onboard, duty free on board, contract catering, remote site and support services, rail catering, airport and motorway retail.

Newrest had revenues under management of almost €1.9 billion in 2017/18 and 32,000 employees worldwide in 49 countries.
