Nice Côte d’Azur Airport tests Google Indoor Maps technology

FRANCE. Nice Côte d’Azur Airport has signed a partnership agreement with leading internet search engine Google, to test the latter’s Indoor Maps technology (geolocation inside buildings).

Indoor maps of Terminals 1 and 2 (landside and airside) at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport are now available and viewable via Google Maps. Currently in the test phase, this new technology aims to guide passengers, simplifying and optimising their movements by indicating certain points of interest inside the airport: check-in counters, security checkpoints, walkways, shops and businesses, toilets and other specific services.

Passengers can therefore learn about and plan their itinerary through the terminals, level by level, and locate themselves in real time by enabling geolocation on their mobile devices using the Google Maps application (available via IOS and Android).

Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur Chairman of the Executive Board Dominique Thillaud commented: “This collaboration is integral to Nice Côte d’Azur Airport’s strategy of providing those leading figures in technological innovation who wish it, with an experimental laboratory working for the ongoing improvement of passenger flow, using innovative tools that facilitate the experience of clients at the airport.”

Google Project Manager Omer Sommerich added: “Google’s vision for maps has always been to provide Web users with as much information as possible so they can find their way quickly and precisely wherever they are. We are delighted to partner with Nice Côte d’Azur Airport to make sure all visitors find their way with no hesitation.”

In November last year London Gatwick Airport announced that Indoor Maps and Indoor Streetview would be available across its public areas – the largest such implementation in Europe at the time.
