“This new global premiere not only underlines the company’s status as HKIA’s premium specialist electronics retailer but also its dedication to maintain its position at the forefront of the electronics category in travel retail industry,” Nuance stated.
Kairos Watches aims to combine luxury mechanical watch sensibilities with the functionality of a smartwatch in one device. The smartwatch presents a traditional mechanical movement with a transparent OLED screen to offer multi-operating system support to Android, iOS and Window smartphones.
The watch has bluetooth and offers notifications and push alerts for incoming calls, messages, emails, WhatsApp, Facebook and more. It also has a three-axis accelerometer with gesture detection, a gyroscope, and a USB charging cable with a magnetic connector. With continuous software upgrade, the company said its watch could also display activity and fitness tracking data, support nine languages including English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Japanese, act as a remote control for camera shutter, music player and Apps, a chronograph with stop-watch function and GPS-enabled world time display.
The smartwatch has a five to seven-day battery life and the watch winder can simultaneously wind the mechanical movement and charge the smartwatch battery.
Dufry Group Regional Managing Director of Nuance Asia and Regional Chief Operating Officer Asia & Middle East Alessandra Piovesana said: “This worldwide premiere launch at Sound & Vision once again underlines our long-standing strategy and commitment of being the first to offer the latest in-trend cutting-edge technological innovations, constantly keeping our discerning airport passengers ahead of time when it comes to obtaining state-of-the-art technological devices.
“Smartwatches have become by far one of the newest and innovative markets to come to the digital technology industry. While choice is essential for smartwatches to flourish, we confidently anticipate that the mechanical smartwatch hybrid will open up more opportunities in the growing wearable tech segment. It will satisfy quality and style-conscious high-tech enthusiasts. We are thankful for the Kairos brand’s trust and confidence in placing this ground-breaking launch privilege at our Sound & Vision electronics stores.”
Nuance predicted that the potential of smartphones and tablets will intensify as technologies evolve but anticipates a saturation point in the market. “There is a need to further differentiate and segment immediately,” the company stated.
Its Sound & Vision stores introduced wearable tech as a strategic category in 2013. “Given the success of its current smartwatch portfolio consisting of Samsung, Sony, Pebble and BURG, the new addition of the Kairos Watches will help to further generate customer interest, drive penetration, and ensure for a broad range of devices at different price points.
“Sound & Vision continues to pioneer the launch of innovative breakthroughs in technology since 2003 at Hong Kong International Airport, hand-in-hand with our brand partners,” Nuance added.
