Nuance extends Zürich retail footprint with new Arrivals store

Nuance now operates 1,800sq m of Arrivals duty free space at Zürich Airport

SWITZERLAND. The Nuance Group has opened its second Arrivals duty free store at Zürich Airport, adding 1,205sq m of retail space to the retailer’s business at the location.

The walk-through store, described by the company as “one of Europe’s biggest Arrivals duty free stores,” is located in the baggage hall of Terminal 1.

The Nuance Group CEO Europe Andrea Belardini said: “Our continued development at Zürich Airport reaffirms our longstanding collaboration with our airport partner to roll out innovative and exciting retail concepts that deliver an outstanding shopping experience. The addition of a second spacious Arrivals store to our expansive portfolio means that we are able to extend our services further and fulfil demands for retail options at every step of the retail journey to arriving passengers and residents.”

Zürich Airport Head Commercial Patrick Graf added: “With the opening of the second Arrivals duty free store we are now in the position to offer a world class shopping experience at departure and arrival and will certainly strengthen our position for what we stand for – a real Duty Free Paradise.

“Both stores have been developed in close cooperation with The Nuance Group to set a new benchmark in terms of quality, innovation and service.”

A highlight of the store is the Mövenpick wine shop-in-shop concept, featuring the full product line of wine and Champagne. This is a first for the travel retail industry, said Nuance, and is anticipated to prove popular with returning Swiss travellers and tourists alike.

A new concept for Lindt Delice macaroons has also been added, complementing Nuance’s Lindt chocolate store which recently opened airside. Regular wine and fine food tastings will also be offered to enhance the customer experience.

Nuance has incorporated its portfolio of “˜Boutique’ concepts for liquor, tobacco, fragrances & cosmetics which were recently unveiled at Antalya Airport, and introduced a new concept for vodka, featuring all major brands. As part of the tobacco offer a separate walk-in humidor has also been installed.

Nuance has also boosted its speciality offer, with a range of leading brand sunglasses and a dedicated area for Swarovski jewellery, as well as selected electronic items and accessories.

The product sectors have been clearly segmented to help customers identify key hero categories, the retailer added. It also houses best sellers, new items, special promotions and gifting ideas on dedicated furniture.

Nuance said it plans to invest around CHF20 million in its European operations this year, refurbishing or developing more than 7,500sq m of retail space across its portfolio.

The debut of this latest store means Nuance now operates over 1,800sq m of Arrivals duty free shopping at Zürich, and is one of several key initiatives being rolled out across the European business in 2011.

Later this year, Nuance will introduce new walk-through concepts for its existing Tax Free stores at Zurich, as well as a new walk-through store at Lisbon, both of which will feature the company’s Duty Free Store concept and touch screen technology recently launched at Antalya.

Nuance has operated at Zürich Airport since 1961. The company’s largest European retail operation, Nuance now operates over 50 airport shops there.
