P&O exclusive: The Old Pulteney 12yo whisky gift pack is presented in a traditional canvas sailing bag |
International Beverage Group has unveiled a limited-edition gift pack for its award-winning Old Pulteney single malt Scotch whisky, created specially for P&O Ferries’ 175th anniversary celebrations in 2012.
The exclusive edition forms part of a year of celebrations for the leading UK ferry operator. Only 1,000 of the celebratory gift packs are being made available exclusively on P&O Ferries voyages from April 2012, featuring 12yo single malt selected by Pulteney Distillery Manager Malcolm Waring.
Bottled in 35cl at 40%abv, the whisky is presented in a traditional cream canvas sailing bag, specially printed with P&O’s retrospective maritime flag.
The celebratory gift packs, which retail at £19.99 per bottle, are distributed by Cecil Macdonald & Co Ltd, International Beverage’s sales and logistics partner for UK travel retail and duty free (visit: www.cecilmac.co.uk).
The travel retail exclusive is matured wholly in ex-bourbon casks. On the palate, the malt is described as dry, medium bodied and smooth. Faintly salty with a slight spicy note, it has a long-lasting warm finish.
Old Pulteney is made at the most northerly distillery on the UK mainland, in Wick. The distillery was founded in 1826 at the height of Wick’s herring boom and it is this maritime heritage that dubbed it the ‘Maritime Malt’.
“Old Pulteney’s seafaring heritage makes it the perfect partner for P&O Cruises, whose own nautical roots date back to 1837 when the company’s founding fathers, Arthur Anderson and Brodie McGhie Willcox, were awarded the British Government contract for a weekly mail service to the Iberian Peninsula,” said the brand owner.
International Beverage Global Travel Retail Manager James Bateman added: “Old Pulteney is one of the fastest-growing single malt whiskies in the British domestic market and travel retail is an increasingly important channel for the brand.
“We are delighted to team up with P&O Ferries and to deliver this exclusive gift pack for them. Our partnership with such an iconic, historic seafaring company compliments perfectly Old Pulteney’s own maritime roots and of supporting and celebrating maritime history and adventure.”
P&O Ferries operates 22 ships on routes to Northern Ireland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and France, carrying more than 9 million passengers, more than 1.5 million cars and 2 million trucks a year.
