Travel retail exclusive: Old Pulteney “˜WK499 Isabella Fortuna’ single malt Scotch whisky |
UK. International Beverage Holdings has launched a limited-edition variant of Old Pulteney Scotch whisky exclusively for travel retailers.
Old Pulteney “˜WK499 Isabella Fortuna’ single malt Scotch whisky will be launched and sold exclusively at £32.99 in selected World Duty Free and World of Whiskies stores in the UK before wider European distribution with selected operators from April 2010.
The whisky is bottled in 100cl at cask strength, 52%abv. It is named after the last remaining drifter boat in Wick Harbour in the North of Scotland, the Isabella Fortuna, registered as WK499. Wick is home to the Pulteney distillery, the most northerly distillery on the UK mainland, and was the largest fishing port in Europe in the 19th century.
Old Pulteney “˜WK499′ is launched initially in the World of Whiskies specialist shops at London Heathrow Terminal 1, 4 and 5, London Gatwick North, Gatwick South and Edinburgh, Glasgow and London Stansted, and it will be the WDF-chosen ‘Malt of the Month’ at 12 stores for the month of January 2010, including in Heathrow T1, T3 and T5 and at Aberdeen.
The exclusive release of 18,000 bottles is from casks selected by Stuart Harvey, Master Blender at Inver House Distillers Ltd.
Speaking about the launch, Old Pulteney’s Senior Brand Manager, Iain Baxter commented: “We are delighted to be offering this exclusive limited edition to travel retail. The history of the Pulteney Distillery is entwined with the history of the Wick fishing industry, that’s why Old Pulteney is known as “˜The Genuine Maritime Malt’. Both our bottles and tube feature a traditional herring drifter and so it’s only fitting that we acknowledge the last remaining drifter in the harbour with this limited edition Isabella Fortuna WK499.”

Tasting notes
Old Pulteney WK499 is bright and light gold in colour. The nose is light brown sugar and sweet coconut, with rich creamy toffee balanced by green apples, lemon and mandarin notes. The taste is sweet, soft and delicately complex with chewy vanilla and warm spices, with a lingering warm finish.
