Nicaraguan cigar specialist Oliva Cigar has announced the purchase of the Puros Indios, Cuba Aliados and Roly brands.
Frederik Vandermarliere, Owner and CEO of J. Cortès Cigars, which purchased Oliva in 2016, described the three Honduran brands as “very well known, much-loved and respected”.
“Puros Indios, Cuba Aliados and Roly were all started by the remarkable Rolando Reyes Sr, for whom I have a lot of respect,” Vandermarliere said.
“They have a significant loyal following in the US market, so it made sense to us to take these brands under the Oliva roof, where we can ensure their quality from leaf to the market.”
Master blender, roller and cigar brand creator, Rolando Reyes Sr, is regarded as a legend in the cigar industry. From an early age, he worked in cigar factories in Cuba before moving to the USA, and later Honduras, to build up his own brands which became known for their quality, consistency and competitive price. Reyes, who passed away in 2012, preferred to work at night, when his workers had gone home and he had the factory to himself. If he spotted a flaw in a roller’s work, he would leave a handwritten note on their desk for them to find first thing the next morning. |
