Omega brand ambassador George Clooney sports the Aqua Terra |
SWITZERLAND. Omega has launched a new Seamaster Aqua Terra Collection of mechanical watches with an ocean-themed design and hi-tech components.
The watches feature teak concept dials whose vertical lines recall the wooden decks on luxury yachts.
The 18ct gold hands and hour markers also have a new look: brushed and polished, they are coated with a white Super-LumiNova which, in the dark, casts a dramatic blue reflection.
The mechanical models in the new Seamaster Aqua Terra Ladies’ Collection are among the first Omega watches to be delivered with Si 14 silicon balance-springs. These components are said to represent the next step in the watchmaking revolution and are named after the chemical symbol and atomic number for silicon.
Silicon is non-magnetic so the performance of the Si 14 balance-spring is not disturbed by exposure to magnetic objects. This is claimed to allow the watches to deliver significantly better chronometric performance than those whose balance-springs are made of traditional materials.
Models in the new collection also feature the Co-Axial escapement pioneered by Omega in 1999.
The men’s models have been created in two case sizes, 41.5mm and 38.5mm. The 38.5mm case size is also available with the quartz calibre.
The 41.5mm models are delivered with 18ct red gold, stainless steel or blended (18ct red gold and stainless steel) cases and matching bracelets. The 18ct red gold case is also offered with a brown alligator leather strap.
The 38.5mm Co-Axial models come in 18ct red gold, 18ct yellow gold, stainless steel or blended (18ct red or 18ct yellow gold with stainless steel) and matching bracelets or, with the gold models, brown alligator leather straps.
The women’s mechanical models are the first to be equipped with the Co-Axial calibre 8520/8521, the first in-house calibre which was designed especially for smaller watches.

Aqua Terra Ladies Jewellery Collection
The Aqua Terra Ladies Jewellery Collection is a range of watches accentuated with 11 Top Wesselton diamond hour markers totalling 0.19ct and their bezels incorporate 44 more diamonds with a combined weight of 0.77ct. The 30mm cases are presented either with matching bracelets or integrated white mother-of-pearl alligator straps.
The new Aqua Terra women’s watches are also available with stainless steel case bodies and bracelets and the quartz calibre.
The fine jewellery watches are said to take the teak concept dial to a new level: they are highlighted with vertically set diamonds. Their 30mm, 18ct white gold case bodies are also set with Top Wesselton diamonds, as are the 18ct white gold bracelets.
