INTERNATIONAL. The special commemorative publication from The Moodie Davitt Report, in which we mark the 70th anniversary of duty free & travel retail, is now available to order in hard copy using our Print on Demand service.
Initial distribution of the printed edition was limited to pre-orders only. However copies can now be ordered via our Print on Demand system for US$125 each.
The airport duty free business was first brought to life at Shannon Airport in the west of Ireland in 1947. It was the brainchild of Brendan O’Regan, a visionary who spotted an opportunity to open a shop serving travellers flying between Europe and North America. His idea and its execution gave birth to the global industry that we know today.
In this book we trace many of the defining moments of the past 70 years. We tell the Shannon story itself, and the challenges involved in establishing this new trading channel. We outline how Shannon’s early success inspired others – from Panama to Paris – to embrace this new concept.
We track the industry’s growth trajectory from those early days through the 1960s and into the 1970s and 1980s, when the business we recognise today took shape. And we follow that journey through to the present day, highlighting the events that have shaped the business environment more recently. We focus heavily too on the individual corporate stories of the major actors, outlining how today’s power players emerged.
The Moodie Davitt Report is proud to bring you this special book (digital copy attached), marking a milestone in our fast-paced and vibrant business, but one that faces uncertain times, especially in the face of increasing competition from the e-commerce channel.
We hope you find this title informative and enjoyable, and that it can play its own small part in inspiring the industry to new and greater heights.
