Travelling in style: The Orla Kiely brand is sold at London Heathrow T1 and the new Bangkok Airport |
Orla Kiely’s philosophy is: “good design is not over-designed” and “functionality is king”. It was this philosophy that led to the creation of the designer’s first range of signature stem print handbags in the 1990s. The freshness she achieved through her use of colour and pattern created an instant appeal. Over the following decade the bag collection has grown to include a complete ready-to-wear womenswear line, accessories, travel items and homeware.
Orla Kiely clothing
There is an innocent, quirky element to the designs as well as a sophisticated and stylish feel. Individuality and fun are translated into timeless prints and colours. The woven collections have an emphasis on comfort and are cut to suit all shapes and sizes. A menswear knitwear collection was introduced for Autumn/Winter 2006. Jersey items retail from €60 to €150, knitwear ranges from €180 to €500 and woven products €220 to €700.
Orla Kiely accessories
The bags are designed to be as pretty on the inside as the outside. Practicality and detail are key, accompanied by striking imagery. They are aimed at being working accessories as well as collectible design pieces.
Hard-wearing laminate and rubber details mean the bags are durable. Orla Kiely bags are individual and easily spotted. Women’s leathergoods retail from €120 to €250 for the signature laminated canvas ranges, while leather is between €250 and €700. Men’s leathergoods retail from €150 to €500.
Also available is a tableware range, with mugs retailing at €48 for set of four, and a bone china mug at €15.
