District features “fresh food, sleek design and the latest technology” says OTG |
USA. OTG, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and MarketPlace Development this week opened a new bar concept called District at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport Terminal A. The bar is located pre-security and is one element in a commercial transformation currently underway at the terminal.
“We are thrilled to bring travellers this new pre-security experience. The modern space offers a great place for guests to spend time with family and friends before flight,” said OTG CEO Rick Blatstein. “It also serves as a wonderful first impression upon arriving to the terminal. Fresh food, sleek design and the latest technology create a sense that something new and exciting is taking place.”
Terminal A Executive Chef (and Washington native) Billy McCormick’s menu features seasonal items with a focus on fresh, local ingredients from area farms including Kreider and Esbenshade Farms. Specialties include the Mediterranean Plate consisting of sundried tomato hummus, grape leaves and marinated olives, a Kale Caesar salad, Maine Lobster Roll, Vegan Quinoa Burger, ten-ounce New York Strip and more.
Design firm ICrave developed the District design. The 690sq ft venue houses red lacquered walls and walnut wood bands interwoven with accent lighting strips, with tufted Ferrari-inspired leather bar stools to seat guests. Each seat also features a charging station and OTG’s iPad platform, which connects travellers to real-time flight information, language support, and complimentary Internet.
“This is just beginning,” said Paul McGinn, President of MarketPlace Development. “Over the next few months we look forward to a complete transformation of the passenger experience in Reagan National’s Terminal A.”
“With the opening of the District, our passengers and guests will experience the first concessions component of the transformation of Terminal A – an exceptional blend of quality, style and service,” said Steve Baker, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Vice President for Customer and Concessions Development.
In the coming months, the partners will introduce dining concepts from local chefs Carla Hall, Jeff Tunks and Robert Wiedmaier.
