GERMANY. Audio perfection is promised from Pasco at TFWA World Exhibition this year with the latest in technology from Bang & Olufsen, Bose, Philips, Sharp and Sony (Stand: Marine Village R1).

Bose

Pasco represents the Bose brand in European, North African and some Middle Eastern travel retail markets. The new products are:

The Bose SoundDock digital music system is designed to deliver a new standard of audio performance for Apple’s iPod and iPod mini. No headphones, cables or adaptors are required – the new speaker system lets iPod owners access, control and listen to their stored music with the ease of dock and play.

“The Bose SoundDock enables iPod customers to bring high quality music sound into any room within their home,” said Pasco General Manager Worldwide Robert Suter “It is a superb piece of equipment which combines functionality with a new level of audio performance. Bose is one of the most respected names in sound and we are delighted to be adding the SoundDock to the Pasco portfolio.”

The SoundDock system is said to deliver clear, full sound. Using an integrated system approach, the amplifiers, equalisers and speakers are matched; there is no need for the user to make adjustments. Patented technology means music sounds natural at any volume.

Measuring just 16.89cm high x 30.26cm wide x 16.47cm deep, the SoundDock integrates with third- and fourth-generation iPods, as well as the iPod mini. It can be operated via an infrared remote, or, when the iPod is docked, all of its controls are accessible with one-button volume controls available on the product.

To complement iPod design, the SoundDock is sleek and stylish, with a high-gloss white finish. Travel retail price will be about €325.

The Bose Wave Music System speaker system provides room-filling sound from a small system. Engineered for ease of use, there are no visible buttons. Instead the system is operated by a credit card-sized remote control. The CD players, digital AM/FM tuner, amplifiers and speakers are all built-in for quality instant sound.

A large, bright display panel is easy to read and understand, displaying artist, title and album names of encoded MP3 CDs. An auxiliary input jack also allows the systems sound to be enjoyed with a TV, VCR, DVD player or computer. Headphones can be plugged in for personal sound. Travel retail price is €629.

Also new from Bose are an updated version of the QuietComfort 2 Acoustic Noise Cancelling Headphones. Offering a combination of noise reduction and audio performance, the headphones are ergonomically designed for a comfortable fit and fold flat for easy storage in a slim carrying case. The product is described as compact and lightweight, with silver and chrome accents. The user can either fade background noise, or add Bose quality sound by attaching the included audio cord to a portable MP3, CD or DVD player, laptop computer, inflight audio system or home stereo. Travel retail price is €350.

Sony

From Sony come three new Walkman models: Walkman NW-A3000V, A1000L and NWE205B/Walkman Bean. The Walkman Bean is a new flash 512MB memory-based MP3 player from Sony, said to combine an innovative ergonomic design with ease of use.

The Walkman Bean, so-named because of its shape, features a direct pop-up USB jack, which can be inserted into a PC to transfer music.

Walkman Bean features a bright 1-line OLED display making navigation through track listings simple, up to 50-hour playback from a lithium-ion rechargeable battery and a super high-speed charge facility, which provides the user with three hours play from just a three-minute charge. It is available in various colours: blue, pink, black and white. Travel retail price is €108.

The Walkman 20GB NW-A3000 and 6GB NW-A1000 are said to redefine digital music players. They have an ergonomic design and a wide range of features.

The Artist Link function searches every artist, album and song stored on the device and offers suggestions of artists and bands linked to the genre of music being played at the time. My Favorite Shuffle automatically selects the most listened to 100 songs and plays them at random, while the Time Machine Shuffle function randomly selects a year and plays all the songs from the year. Colours are violet and silver, while the 6GB unit is also available in pink and blue. Colour-matching headphones are included. Travel retail price is around €225/270.
