Passenger numbers surge at Macau International Airport in July

Recovery momentum: Macau International Airport anticipates the passenger volume to further increase during August

MACAU, CHINA. Macau International Airport served more than 550,000 passengers in July, representing 60% of the total recorded in the same month of pre-pandemic 2019. The number was +28% up on June.

The airport also saw 4,000 aircraft movements during this period, an increase of about +10% compared to the previous month. This represents 58% of the figure posted in the same 2019 period.

The passenger recovery spells good news for retailers at the airport

The average daily inbound and outbound passengers reached 17,000 in July; daily average flights for the month stood at 129.

The busiest flight routes from Macau were Mainland China (53%) and Taiwan (18%), while international routes accounted for 29% of the total.

Anticipating further traffic growth in August, the airport has increased its route network and increased flight services.

Among the providers is Air Macau, which has resumed its route to and from Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport. Starlux Airlines has added flights between Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau in July and August.

The airport company said it is actively coordinating with airlines for the resumption of further flight services and to expand international capacity.

It is also closely working with the Macau government’s tourism development department to drive the growth of medium and long-haul routes such as Indonesia. ✈
