Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne set to leave Lauder – 02/05/08

US. After nearly two decades with the group, the vastly experienced Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne is set to leave The Estée Lauder Companies at the end of June, according to Women’s Wear Daily.

The publication reported that Bousquet-Chavanne will pursue “entrepreneurial opportunities outside the industry”, thought to involve a “venture capital-financed, entertainment-oriented company that is involved with the Internet”.

The departure is the latest in a series of high-profile, top-level management changes within the company. Late last year Philip Shearer resigned as Group President, and joined Groupe Clarins.

That followed the news that The Estée Lauder Companies had appointed P&G’s Fabrizio Freda as President and Chief Operating Officer, a role that became effective this March, with a succession plan that anticipates Freda becoming CEO within 24 months.

Bousquet-Chavanne has been a Group President of the Estée Lauder Companies since 2001. From 2001 to 2004 he led the Estée Lauder and MAC brands, along with the Aramis and Designer Fragrances division.

In 2005 he expanded his responsibilities to focus on important strategic opportunities across Europe and Asia, while continuing to head the Aramis and Designer Fragrances division – including Aramis, Tommy Hilfiger, Donna Karan, Missoni, Michael Kors, Sean John, Lab Series, Kiton and Mustang, in addition to Bobbi Brown, La Mer, Jo Malone, Darphin and the Fashion Group.

Bousquet-Chavanne joined the Estée Lauder Companies in 1989 as Vice President and General Manager, Aramis International. From 1992 until 1996 he was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Travel Retailing division.

He left the company briefly in 1997 to serve as Executive Vice President/General Manager, International Operations, for Parfums Christian Dior.

From 1998 to 2001 Bousquet-Chavanne served as President of Estée Lauder International, overseeing the company’s brands in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Asia/Pacific, as well as Travel Retailing.

He also helped establish regional Product Development Centres in Paris and Tokyo, and the company’s advanced management development programme at Oxford University in the UK.

Earlier in his career Bousquet-Chavanne was Managing Director for Elizabeth Arden in the UK.
