CANADA. Canadian wine supplier Peller Estates Icewine has announced a new partnership with distributor Peter Ayling Associates to represent its award-winning icewine throughout Europe and Middle East duty free and travel retail markets. Peller Estates Icewine will be showcased for the first time at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes next week (Stand FI, Blue Village).
The Peller Estates Icewine duty free and travel retail range includes Peller Estates VQA Vidal Icewine 375ml, Peller Estates VQA Vidal Oak Aged Icewine 375ml and Peller Estates VQA Cabernet Franc Icewine 375ml. The company has also introduced a triple pack, specially designed for the travel retail market which features a 200ml bottle of each of the above. You can sample the products at the show, the company said.
Peller Estates will work with Peter Ayling Associates to expand the distribution of Peller Estates Icewine into Europe and the Middle East. The partnership will debut at next week’s show in Cannes.
Peter Ayling Associates will offer three Peller Estates Icewines: Peller Estates Oak Aged Vidal, Riesling and Cabernet Franc Icewine.
Peller Estates Icewines are available in fine wine stores, airport stores and restaurants in the Americas and Asia. The Peller Estates winery is located in the heart of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada and is operated by the third generation of the Peller family.
Peller Vice-President Estate Wines and Global Markets Greg Berti said: “We have been selling Peller Icewines in the Canadian travel market for a number of years now are brand leader in this key market. We are now developing Peller Icewines on a global basis and key to our development is not only Canada, but the US, Asia including Japan, Taiwan, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand.
“We see enormous potential in the EU and Middle East and have recently appointed Peter Ayling to cover these exciting markets on our behalf. In all these markets we will be targeting the key airport retail opportunities. However, we will look at all areas and have been very successful with our listings, for example a prestigious listing for Peller Icewine on United Airlines.”

Peter Ayling has a wealth of experience in the luxury wine and spirits business, and has previously worked for Allied Domecq for over 20 years. He held a number of senior sales management roles including Business Group Director for the UK on-trade and most recently as Director of Wine Development for Allied Domecq’s Global Duty Free operation.

In other news, Peller Estates Icewine has had a record-setting year, winning major awards at the world’s finest wine competitions in Paris, London, Vienna, San Francisco, Japan and Brussels. Among its awards are:
– ‘Best Icewine’ for Riesling Icewine 2004 at the International Austrian Wine Challenge.
– Gold medal for Vidal Icewine 2004: Peller Estates Icewines were the only Canadian Icewines to be ranked in the top 10 Icewines of the World.
– Gold medal for Riesling Icewine 2004 at Brussels’ Concours Mondial de Bruxelles competition.
– Gold medal for Oak Aged Icewine 2004 at Paris’ Vinalies International.
– ‘Best in class’ for Riesling Icewine 2004 and Silver medal for Cabernent Franc Icewine 2004 at London’s International Wine and Spirit Competition.
– Medals were also awarded at the recent Japan Wine Challenge, the UK’s International Wine Challenge and San Francisco International Wine Competition.
