Penrhos Spirits joins with Lagardère to boost travel retail presence in UK airports

UK. Family-owned Penrhos Spirits has extended its travel retail footprint, securing listings with Lagardère Travel Retail at key UK airports.

Known for its sustainable, farm-to-bottle gin range, the brand’s winning London Dry and wonky fruit gins are now available at Luton and London City airports, with 5cl miniatures featured in the Discover London store at Heathrow Airport Terminal 2.

The Penrhos Gin range is showcased alongside other popular spirits brands at Lagardère duty-free stores at Heathrow, Luton and London City airports

The offerings also include Penrhos’ full range, including its signature London Dry, Raspberry, Apple & Elderflower and Rhubarb variants in 70cl (£20.99/US$27), 5cl bottles and 4 x 5cl gift packs.

In 2023, Penrhos Spirits set a new industry standard by switching to 100% recycled aluminium bottles for its product range. The packaging is designed with a spirits-safe lining, weighing only 80g compared to 750g for glass, and has been independently verified to reduce the brand’s packaging carbon footprint by 91%.

Penrhos Spirits Co-Founder Charles Turner said, “Our recycled aluminium gin bottles are absolutely perfect for travellers. Beyond the sustainability credentials, they’re significantly lighter to carry and completely shatterproof – ensuring your holiday spirit arrives intact, whatever turbulence your luggage encounters.

Sustainable spirits: Penrhos gins are crafted with the planet in mind

“Our award-winning gin comes in a variety of delicious flavours, made with our very own wonky fruit from the farm, making this a truly unique spirit purchase.”

Penrhos gin reflects the brand’s focus on food waste reduction by repurposing what it describes as ‘imperfectly perfect’ fruit (fruit rejected by supermarkets) from the family farm into premium spirits.

The brand’s latest packaging innovation is showcased through the release of Wonky Raspberry, using excess farm raspberries previously rejected by retailers.

Turner said, “We realised that one in five raspberries weren’t perfect enough for shop shelves despite tasting absolutely delicious. Now each bottle contains over 100g of these rescued raspberries.”

Penrhos Travel Retail Consultant Rupert Firbank added, “The world might not need another gin, but it definitely needs gin in shatterproof, recycled and stylish packaging. These award-winning spirits are perfect for travel retail – lightweight, durable, and create significant savings across the entire supply chain.”

Two farming families combine their expertise to craft Penrhos’ premium gin range

This new travel retail collaboration builds on Penrhos’ successful nationwide launch in over 400 Sainsbury’s stores in September 2023.

The brand’s London Dry and Wonky Raspberry variants are also available online through its website, as well as on Amazon and Sainsbury’s, with a retail price of £30 (US$39) for 70cl. ✈
