Philip Morris and Qatar Duty Free target growing Chinese market

Philip Morris International (PMI) Duty Free and Qatar Duty Free have teamed up in a Marlboro promotion celebrating the Chinese Year of the Horse.

The promotion, in a dedicated Chinese New Year area erected by Qatar Duty Free, targeted the “ever-growing influx of Chinese legal-age smokers” passing through Doha Airport.

PMI said that the 2014 limited-edition pack, featuring a horse drawing, is targeted at consumers looking for “a mix of innovation, exclusivity and a clear differentiation to products available in their domestic markets”.

The release of the limited pack edition also coincided with a phase of higher purchasing from Europeans due to the conclusion of the Christmas and New Year period.
