Philips Global Travel Retail to debut new Disney lighting line in Cannes

Philips will present at the TFWA World Exhibition a complete range of over 25 travel retail bestsellers from the categories Shaving & Grooming, Skincare, Hair Removal, Oral-Care and Lighting (stand number: Blue Village G6).

“After recently having transferred its audio visual- and multi-media product portfolio outside of the company, Philips has rebalanced its global travel retail offering,” said Philips Head of Global Travel Retail Melvin Broekaart.

“We now offer an attractive portfolio of bestsellers and innovations to a much broader group of retailers. Besides the traditional electronic retailers, Philips now also has an attractive offering for beauty and cosmetics operators with our beauty range consisting of the VisaPure skincare device and the innovative Lumea, which keeps skin free of hair and silky smooth every day.”

Philips is also introducing to travel retail the first products from its global partnership with Disney. “We have teamed up with The Walt Disney Company to develop a range of inspiring, magical and playful lighting products that combine our groundbreaking innovation in lighting with the magic of Disney characters and storytelling,” said Broekaart. “These products are excellently suitable for travel retail, as they are unique, purposeful gifts for children of all ages.”

Philips VisaPure

Philips VisaPure is a gentle, easy-to-use skin cleansing device that massages the skin to remove make-up and dirt, claiming to be ten times more effective than hand cleansing.

The brush rotates and vibrates, cleaning the skin on the face or décolletage in just one minute.

The fully waterproof product is said to be the only cleansing system in the world that features ‘Dual Motion’ technology, which creates a comfortable massaging effect that improves micro-circulation beneath the skin’s surface to bring out the skin’s natural radiance. The vertical pulsating movement of the brush gently breaks up surface impurities including dirt, dead skin cells and make-up residues, while the rotating movement sweeps the impurities away.

Philips VisaPure offers two different speed settings: Speed one, ‘gentle cleansing’, for a mild and soft cleansing; and Speed two, ‘deep cleansing’, for a comfortable and more intensive cleansing.

The product comes with a charging stand that holds the brush, taking less space and letting air naturally dry the used brush. When connected it fully charges Philips VisaPure in six hours, providing it with cordless power for 30 uses – equivalent to 15 days when used twice per day.

Philips VisaPure comes with one Normal skin brush, suitable for use on the face and neck, including cheeks, chest, chin, forehead, neck and nose. Additional Sensitive and Exfoliating Brush Heads are available separately.

Philips Lumea

The Philips Lumea hair removal system uses light-based technology called IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to remove and prevent the reappearance of hair on the face as well as body.

Philips has adapted the IPL technology used in professional beauty salons for safe and effective use at home, working closely with leading dermatologists to develop the Lumea hair removal system. The product’s design is a result of over 10 years of extensive consumer research with more than 2000 women, according to the company.

Philips Lumea applies gentle pulses of light to the hair root; as a consequence the hair sheds naturally and hair regrowth is inhibited. Repeating this treatment regularly will keep skin smooth every day, the brand said.

The cordless product has five adjustable light energy settings. The precision attachment is equipped with an extra integrated light filter and enables a safe and convenient application on the upper lip, chin and sideburns. It can also be used on other sensitive areas on the body, such as the underarms, the bikini area and hard-to-reach areas. A bigger body attachment enables fast treatment on large areas such as legs.

Philips’ clinical studies are reported to have shown significant hair reduction in as little as four bi-weekly treatments resulting with smooth hair-free skin. To maintain these results, the company suggests repeating the treatment when needed. Time between treatments may vary based on individual hair regrowth.

Beard Trimmer 9000

The Philips Beard Trimmer 9000 features a laser guidance system that projects a sharp red line of light on the cheek, jaw line or neck exactly where the hairs will be cut, so that men can get a precise symmetrical look.

Removing the adjustable length comb reveals a reversible, dual-sided precision trimmer underneath. One side is a 32mm high-performance trimmer, the other is a 15mm-wide precision trimmer for getting into small spaces such as under the nose or around the mouth. It is designed to cut very close while still protecting the skin, and its small size and angled design enable users to easily look out for fine lines and details.

The product features 17 lock-in length settings. To select the preferred trim length, just turn the zoom wheel on the handle until the desired length is displayed. The LED display shows the chosen length setting in millimetres – the chosen length is now ‘locked in’ for a precise and even trim. For a three-day beard, Philips suggests using the trimmer’s shortest setting of 0.4mm.

The beard trimmer comes with two combs. The detail comb offers more precision when navigating tight spots, or when rounding off beard edges. The beard comb provides more control for a fast and even trim.

The steel blades lightly brush against each other, so they sharpen themselves during the trimming process, Philips said. The blades stay extra-sharp to cut hairs neatly and effectively, but have rounded blade tips and combs to prevent skin irritation.

Philips Disney SoftPals

Philips Disney SoftPals is a range of easy-to-use LED night lights designed for children. They are said to cast a comforting glow and come in the form of classic Mickey and Minnie Mouse characters, as well as Mike and Sulley from Monsters, Inc.

This is the first range of products to be borne from the Philips Disney partnership, which combines Philips’ expertise in lighting with Disney’s beloved characters to make children’s bedrooms “a more imaginative place for them to read, play and sleep”, the company said.

The products will be co-branded and sold through a variety of complementary Philips and Disney retail channels starting in Europe and the US from September, with Asia and Canada to follow later this year.

The Philips Disney portfolio range includes breakthrough concepts in connected lighting that allows children to interact with Disney stories and characters, according to Philips. Children and parents can connect e-books with their lighting to create a dreamlike setting that makes reading more interactive and allows families to become fully immersed in the story.

The range also includes nightlights that emit a gentle glow, as well as products designed to help promote a regular sleep pattern for children by letting them know when it’s time to get up.

“With innovation and inspiration at its core, this collaboration fuses Disney’s unrivalled ability to create characters and stories that spark the imagination of children of all ages with our lighting innovation leadership. Together, we will deliver an exciting portfolio of advanced and interactive lighting solutions that the whole family can enjoy,” said Philips Lighting Chief Executive Officer Eric Rondolat.

“It is our ambition to become the category leader known for bringing digital and immersive lighting experiences to the children’s bedroom,” Rondolat said.

The Walt Disney Company EMEA Executive Vice President & General Manager, Disney Consumer Products Simon Philips added: “This product range is a perfect illustration of how Disney storytelling can extend into children’s bedrooms through an innovative and compelling consumer product offering. We are proud to work with Philips to help create positive and comforting reading and bedtime environments for families.”

Commenting on the new SoftPals range to be launched in Cannes, Broekaart said: “With the Philips LED SoftPals range you can set bedtime rituals and be assured that your child won’t get scared in the night if they wake up. The perfect night-time friends, the Philips LED SoftPals – in the form of Minnie and Mickey, and Sulley and Mike – will help even the most nervous of children feel safe at night.”
