Pi Insight releases latest ShelfTrak data showing expansion in travel retail wines & spirits assortment

EUROPE. The travel retail assortment for wines & spirits in Europe has grown by +8% in Q3 2024 compared to the previous quarter, while confectionery has seen a +4% increase in the same period.

That is among the findings from travel retail insight & data specialist Pi Insight and its comprehensive online data platform ShelfTrak.

Pi Insight provides SKU-level detail on shelf space, product placement, pricing and promotional execution across global retail locations through ShelfTrak. New data, covering 18 major airports and 30 key travel retail stores across Europe, is now live on the online platform.

As part of the most recent European audit, ShelfTrak has analysed 30,000 SKUs across 15,000 linear metres of shelf space, giving brands a detailed view of how their products are being executed at the shelf level. This dataset helps identify opportunities to enhance in-store execution and maximise sales potential.

In another finding, the average retail price per SKU for wines & spirits in Europe travel retail is US$121. In confectionery the figure is US$17.

This latest wave of data delivers insights into in-store performance and retail execution for major brands, helping them to optimise product positioning and ultimately increase sales. With comprehensive coverage spanning 50 airports and 75 stores, audited three times per year, ShelfTrak offers actionable data for the channel.

Pi Insight Managing Director Stephen Hillam said: “The data we collect demonstrates a clear link between strong retail execution and improved sales performance. Brands using ShelfTrak can quickly identify issues with shelf placement, pricing, planogram compliance or stock levels, and work closely with their retail partners to take swift corrective action and avoid lost sales opportunities.”

To further enhance its offering, ShelfTrak is preparing to launch an app that will allow store teams to submit photos of in-store displays directly to ShelfTrak’s advanced image-recognition technology for real-time analysis. Clients will receive results in as little as 24 hours, enabling them to take immediate corrective actions and ensure optimal in-store performance.

With ShelfTrak’s extensive data coverage and the forthcoming app launch, brands now have the tools to not only measure their in-store execution but also act on it quicker than ever before. This ensures better shelf presence, promotional compliance and stronger long-term brand performance.
